KINGS OF MACEDON. Alexander III ‘the Great’, 336-323 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 28 mm, 16.91 g, 3 h), Pella, struck under Antigonos II Gonatas, circa 276-274. Head of Herakles right, wearing lion's skin headdress. Rev. AΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ Zeus seated left on low throne, holding long scepter in his left hand and eagle standing right with closed wings in his right; to left, grape bunch above monogram of AP; below throne, ivy leaf. Mathisen, Administrative, Group IV, 16. Price 579. Perfectly centered and of monumental early Hellenistic style. A few small deposits and light marks, otherwise, good very fine.
